Nike is apparently still in jr. high…

Nike makes some damn fine commercials… and they make a lot of them.  I put them in the category of brands that have the burden of having to be great at advertising all the damn time. A lot of the beer companies live in this category as well.

Then there’s this new ad…

On the surface, this is a pretty good ad.  Lot of people running, which is always good when you’re selling running shoes… nice tie in.  I even like the Eva Longoria, even though it’s probably a bit of a stretch… I mean, I’m sure she has run at some point in her life, and don’t get me wrong, it would be lots of fun to watch her run, but it kinda looks like you’re just cashing in on her fame, which isn’t much these days.

Where I end up having an issue is with the concept for the ad, the whole men vs. women thing.  Matter of fact, I’m not sure I can even blame the ad makers for this, because it looks like it was a promotion cooked up within Nike.  But, I have to pick on somebody and you’re right there in front of me, so take it like a good like soldier.

But seriously? Boys versus Girls? You sound like that one perky chick in junior high who isn’t quite comfortable with talking to boys yet, but is really good in a pack, so she suggests boys vs. girls for kickball because she knows that both Susie Johnson and Tamara Markles is like, TOTALLY, good at kickball and would probably beat the boys easily, even if Tommy Smart and Greg Thompson weren’t hurt from when they fell off the jungle gym earlier that week, and then the girls would be like, “oooh, you boys think you’re so tough, but we totally kicked your ass at kick ball!” and the boys would be like, “whatever, we weren’t even trying and we were playing with a handicap because you made us take Jeff…”  John, I mean made us take John… right, I wasn’t there… this is just fantasy anyway… ha ha…

Anyway, it’s lame and Nike needs to grow up… because they’re stupid.  Yeah, stupid Nike…

J.
