Obama to clothing co, “Mr. Weatherproof, Tear Down This Ad!”

Published January 8th, 2010

See what I did there?  Instead of it being Reagan telling Mr. Gorbachev to “tear down this wall,” I did a crazy comedy thing where I made it look like Obama said something similar to the people over at Weatherproof clothing for putting up an ad without asking his permission (link)!  It’s crazy, right?  You know the great part? He didn’t even say that!  I’m pretty sure Obama wasn’t even briefed on the matter because he was busy with some shit like the economy or Afghanistan or health care or whatever… I’m not a politician.

Damn, that was exhausting… anyway, so while Obama was visiting China, he was all snug in his Weatherproof brand jacket and someone from the AP snapped a picture of him in the jacket.  Someone from Weatherproof saw that and lost their shit because, you know, he’s the President and that’s kind of cool.  Weatherproof started to do the right thing, which is contact the AP for the rights to the picture, which they secured, but the AP made sure to tell them one more little detail: “GET CLEARANCE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE BEFORE USING THIS IN AN AD!”

Good grief, someone needs to get fired for that one.  Either one of two things happened here.  One, some idiot just didn’t bother to try to get the rights to the photograph from the White House.  Or two, they heard the person from the AP tell them to secure the rights to the Obama photo and decided to just not do it because they figured they would never get them and would be all ballsy about it and if the White House told them to take it down, it would have been up for a bit already and there would be press and… shit, fell right into their trap.
