Quiznos ads are just all kinds of weird

Published January 14th, 2010

I just started this blog back in December of last year, so I didn’t get a chance to comment on the original appearance of the Quizno’s oven as a character in their ads, so let me just do it now. Wow, that’s really friggin’ weird.

That’s right, this ad just alluded to the idea that a chef, um, er, “sandwich assembler” person, put his DICK IN THE OVEN. You know, not too long ago, Dominos caught all kinds of shit because a video came out of some of their employees farting on ingredients and here we have a character in an ad fucking an appliance. Awesome.

Quiznos could probably claim ignorance for putting this weirdness out, saying they didn’t know what kind of reaction it would have, but that would have been a lie because they shot two versions of it, one being a little less risque than the other.

So, here we are about seven months later and the oven is back, all be it with a new, less “Master Control Program” (look it up, that’s funny) sounding voice and now he’s expanded his creepiness to women.

I have to give the chick in the ad credit for reacting quite adorably to a talking oven, that’s some strong acting. She shows up in another one where the oven just gets aggressive…

Wow, a bonus dick joke, too!

So, here’s probably what happened at the offices of the AOR for Quizno’s.  The client says they need to promote their new lunch time “Choose Two” special and the agency realizes it just had dick in the way of real creative things to do, so it pulled the oven gag back out.  Without any real time to write some quality content outside of the pitch, they just let the guy who does the voice of the oven burn some film by fucking around with the people they brought in to eat on camera.  They then took that and cut it down into these little spots that make their appliances look like sexual predators.

Sound about right?

J.
