The Week in Dead Tree Media – 01/08/09 #CES
Published January 8th, 2010
Through the power of scheduled updates, I present to you this week’s edition of The Week in Dead Tree Media. That’s right, I wrote this hours and hours ago, before I left for the wilds of the show floor of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), so for all you know I could be trapped under the weight of a 3D flatscreen or a very large stripper… it’s all a crap shoot at this point…
- We discussed how McDonalds is showing training videos for its new “Cougars in Training” program. This week’s edition, Olympic Athletes!
- We get a good laugh out of gold old fashioned inappropriate smoking ads, featuring the Flintstones
- Not only are we tired of the Flo commercials by Progressive, a visitor reminded us that this was a recycled ad from 2009
- Speaking of Flo, FloTV is encouraging mother’s to abuse their kids… not just Liberal mothers, all mother who like portable TVs
- We watch in horror as people finally get what they want, healthier food from Taco Bell, but promptly bitch about it anyway… a lot
- Subway’s got a new sandwich so bad that the only way to describe it thoroughly enough is to analyze its name
- Chase reminds us that crazy people need credit cards too
- A quick lecture on how to and how to not talk about financial hardship in your ads
- Our first post that was heard ’round the world, we weigh in on the (not) racist (at all) Australia KFC ad
- We get all political and shit with Obama and Weatherproof
- And finally, we reminded Bing that just because the cool kids are doing it, doesn’t mean they have to do it too
BONUS!
- For the first time in our short history, one of our ad reviews was commented on by the owner of the company that made the crappy ads, specifically, Neil Leeds of Leeds Mattresses. Check out our discussion on why they suck.
By the way, should you happen to be in Las Vegas this weekend for CES, I’m speaking tomorrow at the Digital Hollywood at CES panel on Analytics around 3 or 3:30 in the afternoon.
Always bet on black.
J.
